Tracking Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Department of Justice mail me the background check results?

In most cases, no. Under statutory employment and licensing regulations, results are securely sent electronically to the organization or licensing board listed on your form. You only receive a letter if a manual review or disqualifying conviction is identified.

How long should I wait before checking my status?

You can check your status within 24 to 48 hours of your fingerprinting session. Note that weekend submissions are generally processed on the following business days.

What if my check says "Complete" but my employer says they haven't received it?

Once the status displays "Complete", the state has electronically transmitted the packet to the requesting agency's secure mailbox. It may take 2 to 5 business days for your employer's HR department or the state licensing board to manually review and update your applicant profile.
